Jennifer J. Schnitzer, Ph.D.
is a licensed clinical psychologist in private practice in Raleigh, North Carolina. She is co-owner of Psychological Solutions, Inc., a company focused on providing quality assessment, consultation, treatment, and training to diverse client populations. Dr. Schnitzer earned her B.A. from Georgetown University and her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Pacific Graduate School in Palo Alto, California. She completed a two-year postdoctoral fellowship in forensic psychology at Dorothea Dix Hospital's Forensic Evaluation Unit in Raleigh, North Carolina. She has worked with the severe and persistent mentally ill (SPMI) population in a variety of settings, including both state and federal psychiatric hospitals and prisons. She is currently serving on the advisory panel for the soon to be released WAIS-IV and WMS-IV and has served as a trainer for state and federal employees in a variety of areas, as well as providing continuing education training to other therapists around the country. She now works in private practice with individuals who have a variety of issues. In her private practice, Psychological Solutions Inc., clients can obtain individual therapy and assessment for adults and adolescents, couples therapy, forensic assessment and consultation, including evaluation for custody proceedings, and organizational training and consultation.

Dr. Schnitzer provides brief solution-focused treatment or longer term therapy, as needed. She believes that trust and respect are essential in treatment, and she encourages clients to take an active role in their own treatment. She strives to assist clients to find the balance between accepting oneself and making changes needed to decrease distress. She primarily utilizes cognitive behavioral treatment approaches, as well as elements of dialectical behavior therapy and interpersonal therapy. She takes a flexible approach to treatment that integrates various types of empirically validated treatments and considers the client's preferences, life circumstances, and cultural background. Special areas of interest and expertise include working with mood disorders, women's issues, adolescents, self-esteem, stress management, and evaluations for legal proceedings, including custody cases.
