There are times in life when the strategies we have used to cope or to move towards our most important goals no longer seem to work. At these times, we may find ourselves emotionally overwhelmed, anxious, depressed or just plain afraid.

In this culture we place great value on overcoming periods of crisis on our own, without "outside" help. We fear that turning to someone outside our social network is an indication that we are somehow flawed or weak; we fear that our struggles with a partner or spouse, our children, with our own or another's health, with work or academic pursuits, means that we are out of the mainstream or even abnormal. In truth, none of us are spared the deep challenges of living that occur between birth and death, and at some juncture all of us need to be on the receiving end of help.

What human beings most want, though sometimes we fear or avoid it tenaciously, are deep and satisfying connections to other human beings; we also want meaningful work and the opportunity to live as healthy a life as we are able.

The goal of my practice is to help you address (understand, improve or resolve) the life challenges with which you are confronted and to increase your reservoir of strength and resilience.

I am a licensed clinical social worker in practice for twelve years. I work with individuals (adults 19 and older), couples and groups.

The therapeutic process, as I have come to understand it, is a collaboration between the therapist and the client designed to help provide relief from painful psychological symptoms, overcome challenges and help you live a better life. Sessions are generally 50 minutes long; the length of therapy varies from person to person.

I received my MSW from Hunter College School of Social Work (1995). Post MSW advanced training includes, among other areas, grief work, couples counseling, eating disorders and group psychotherapy.
