Populations Served:

Dr. Scalco works with Adults, Adolescents, and Children age 10 and over.  He has a particular interest in working with Adolescents and Young Adults.  He also does couple and family work.

Approach:

The first phase of treatment is a thorough assessment of the problem.  Initial sessions focus on gathering information about the problem, such as the frequency of occurrence, factors contributing to and against the difficulty, previous attempts to resolve the difficulty, and relevant family history.  Brief standardized assessment measures are used when appropriate.  Goals of treatment are then discussed and agreed upon.

Dr. Scalco utilizes an eclectic therapeutic approach that is governed by the nature of the problem and the client's wants and needs.  He uses a variety of therapeutic techniques to assist the client to resolve the problem.  These approaches include (but are not limited to) cognitive-behavioral strategies, solution focused techniques, support, developing insight, conflict negotiation and management, communication skills training, and assistance with connecting with community resources.  These techniques occur within the context of a supportive and caring relationship designed to foster healing and growth.
