Tina Lepage, Psy.D.lepage.jpg (25872 bytes)Dr. Tina Lepage is a specialist in: personal and professional relationship issues; children, adolescents, and families; psychological, educational, and forensic evaluations; and personal growth pursuits. She holds a Doctorate and Masters in clinical psychology and a Bachelor of Science in child development & family relationships, as well as a Master's in management, and is a Licensed Psychologist. Dr. Lepage is experienced in individual, couples/marriage, family, and group therapy for adults and teens; play therapy for children; psychological, educational, and forensic evaluations for all ages; separation and divorce; family court matters (forensics); and management. Dr. Lepage has been serving clients in a variety of settings for the past 15 years. She is especially well known for the following: couples therapy / marriage therapy (often couples travel several hours to work with her); an in-depth understanding of children and teenagers, and a unique ability to connect with children and teens, even with those highly resistant to therapy; an in-depth understanding of family dynamics and issues, and effective interventions in family issues; parent coaching; an innovative array of divorce services as well as the more traditional custody evaluations, and a unique ability to help couple's mediate all aspects of their divorce; child specialist consulting in divorce and on general child issues; individual therapy with adults and college students facing life transitions or engaged in a personal growth / self-analysis pursuit; career and work issues; and psychological and educational evaluations in clinically complex cases in which diagnostic clarity has been difficult to achieve and/or where previous over-diagnosis or misdiagnosis has clouded the diagnostic and intervention picture.

With adults, in addition to her specialty area of personal and professional relationships, Dr. Lepage has extensive experience working with a variety of common concerns, such as depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, assertiveness, weight management/body image, career planning, balancing work and family, grief and loss issues, infertility and miscarriage, cultural and minority issues, and major life events, issues, decisions, and transitions. In addition to the broad array of clinical evaluation and therapy services offered, Dr. Lepage opened the innovative Center for Separating with Civility & Divorcing with DignityŽ. She completed both her clinical master's thesis and doctoral dissertation in the area of developing parenting plans, determining the highest quality protocol for assessing child and family needs and then addressing those needs in potential parenting arrangements. In her practice she went on to develop a unique, tiered approach to parenting plan consults and to custody evaluations which meets the information and cost needs of every family. Combining her expertise in and interest in workplace relationships/issues and mental health, Dr. Lepage completed her management master's thesis on the effectiveness of employee assistance programs. She has developed and managed successful personal and professional growth programs for universities, corporations, and the U.S. military. Dr. Lepage provides individual therapy for adults, couple's and family therapy, psychological and educational evaluations for adults, custody evaluations, and an extensive range of divorce services to include child specialist consultation and divorce mediation.

Her experience working with children and adolescents also spans the breadth of common teen and childhood issues. From the very beginning of her career, Dr. Lepage has been focusing on children and families; whereas most psychologists have an undergraduate degree that is, like their doctorate, in psychology, Dr. Lepage has an undergraduate in Child Development & Family Relationships. Her many years of specialization in child development and families make her highly sought out by parents seeking help for their child. Her experience extends to working with parents and families as well, and she has a special interest in working with children and teenagers dealing with marital conflict in the family or with divorce. In addition, she has extensive experience in testing to include: psychoeducational evaluations across the academic spectrum, evaluating for learning disabilities and AD/HD as well as gifted children and adolescents; a full range of psychological evaluations; and juvenile forensic evaluations. Her experience with couple's/family issues can also have a positive effect on children, to include couple's therapy for parents staying together, and assisting couples who decide to divorce to do so with a minimal amount of conflict in that process. Dr. Lepage is certified to act as a Parent Coordinator in NC, and is an expert in Cooperative Co-Parenting. Dr. Lepage provides play therapy and psychological evaluations for pre-teen children, individual therapy for teens, social skills groups, psychological and educational evaluations for children and teens, risk assessments for delinquent behaviors, and competency to stand trial for teens.

With her unique blend of training and experience, Dr. Lepage offers a full-service psychology practice to assist individuals, couples, and families. In her professional positions she has worked with a very diverse client population with regard to racial, ethnic/cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds. She is committed to making therapy or evaluation a positive and helpful experience for all of her clients. On a personal note, Dr. Lepage is married, has one child, and enjoys travel, hiking, the beach, reading, and finding time for fun and laughter with family and friends.

PRACTICE/INTERVENTIONS STYLE AND SITE RESOURCES:

Style: I use a combined cognitive-behavioral and experiential therapy approach, or in non-psychology jargon, I use a whole-person approach and look at thoughts, behaviors, and feelings. I am a strong diagnostician, and this early understanding in treatment of the problem results in more targeted interventions and thus more successful treatment. I also subscribe to a solution-focus philosophy, in which I strive to address the problem as quickly as possible, but also with enough depth to avoid relapse. I set goals early in treatment with adults and couples, or with children/teenagers and their families, so we can find successful solutions and change behavior problems, emotional difficulties, academic difficulties, or family problems as soon as possible. I love people and people's stories, and am always truly and deeply interested in the story of every child, teen, and adult I meet. I also think laughter is therapeutic. Combined with my clinical skills, I think this comes across and results in strong and positive therapeutic relationships, and ultimately successful treatment.

Site: In addition having excellent central accessibility for all of my Triangle clients, the location has many other benefits as well. Sutton Station is a campus / park with offices, coffee shops, restaurants, and retail shops, and a lovely grass commons. I have outdoor therapy space so we can sit outdoors or go for a walk if you wish. I also have a host of accommodations for the children/adolescents and families I serve! In addition to a compilation of age-appropriate therapeutic games and activities, I have: a game room with a pool table; a media room; and a campus with outdoor therapy space and walking trails. I recognize children need a play therapy approach, but with play appropriate to their age, and my site meets the broad needs of children of all ages. I have an array of games and toys. The media room is useful for children who can better express how they feel using media resources, such as DVDs, CDs, and the computer. We can watch a movie clip that is meaningful to them, or we can show a movie clip we think might help them better express how they feel or gain a deeper understanding of a topic. Similarly I can incorporate listening to a child's favorite song into therapy, as children often connect to songs that have meaning in their own lives. I also sometimes invite the child to sit outside on the lawn and talk or play versus staying in the office, and, with parent's permission, I back up to the American Tobacco Trail and can take a child for a walk while we talk. (Some parents take advantage of the Trail and get their own exercise while their child is in session! Others enjoy walking to the coffee shop or around campus instead of waiting in the waiting room.)

Philosophy:

My philosophy of Solution-Based Psychological Services reflects a commitment to a problem-solving approach. I recognize that, broken down to the most basic level, people seek psychological services when they are experiencing a problem that they would like solved. My philosophy of Solution-Based Psychological Services also expands to my treatment philosophy in that, as a clinician, I believe that people have the ability to create a self and a lifestyle that they find pleasurable most of the time. My focus on solutions encompasses both my understanding of what a client is seeking when utilizing psychological services, and how I as a clinician perceive self-determination as the cornerstone of experiencing contentment. With a solution base as my guiding principle, I challenge adult and child clients to take a proactive role in exploring potentially successful solutions to improve their level of contentment today and in the future. In line with this philosophy, I use a quote by George Bernard Shaw as my practice Motto: Life isn't about finding yourself. ~ Life is about creating yourself.

Information on FREE Initial Consultation:

I recognize when choosing a psychologist - whether for yourself, your family, or your company - it will be important for you to feel the professional you choose will be a "good fit." Finding the right psychological services provider is a unique task, as this person will generally be addressing very personal issues with you, your family, or your employees. It can be daunting to worry that as part of your quest to find the right psychologist to meet your needs, you may perhaps pay for one or more sessions with people who don't turn out to be a good fit. As a professional courtesy, to help make your search for the right psychological services provider easier, I will not charge you for the initial session if you feel that it is not a good fit. In fact, if I am not a good fit for you, I will be happy to talk with you about what you're looking for, and give you the names of other psychologists that fit your description. If you decide that I am a good fit and to use my services, only then will I charge you for the first session. If at the end of the first session you still have other appointments set up in your search for a psychologist, I will not charge you then, and will instead bill for the first session only if you decide that I am a good fit and return to use my services. I hope that this policy makes your search for the right psychological services provider a bit easier.
