Darryl enjoys consulting with a wide range of socio-economic and age groups. He meets with children and adults to provide assessment, management and/or treatment for AD/HD, communication problems, anxiety, loss and grief, stress, career/midlife direction, and personal behavior change. Dr. Smith has become particularly interested in working with couples who want to enrich their marriages and also with individuals exploring purpose, meaning and spiritual perspectives. As a biracial (African-American) who was also adopted, Dr. Smith takes a special interest in multicultural and adoption circumstances and in situations in which identity formation and understanding are central. A proponent of emotional intelligence and mindfulness perspectives, Darryl is fortunate to have studied with both Daniel Goleman (Emotional Intelligence and Emotional Intelligence in the Workplace) and Jon Kabat-Zinn (Full Catastrophe Living). As a clinical psychologist, he created and for several years directed a stress-reduction program for a national health care organization. He currently brings these skills to support each client's self-discovery and personal fulfillment. This is the heart of his psychotherapy and coaching. Besides his psychotherapy practice, Dr. Smith has worked as a consulting psychologist with a global career management and outplacement firm. He currently consults for a major university healthcare system, providing management coaching and strategies for organizational development.
