Years of professional training and a variety of life experiences have contributed to Elaines treatment philosophy. Before returning to graduate school as a single parent, she worked as a city planner and free-lance writer. Becoming a psychologist was the realization of a personal goal; she found that after years of working in other professions she wanted to engage in a career that focused on the individuals striving toward self-awareness and fulfillment. Elaine sees psychotherapy as a healthy step in anyones life journey as individuals change the way they see themselves and improve the way they communicate their feelings to others, they begin to make positive strides toward the future.Psychotherapy can be especially helpful at times of transition, such as at the end or beginning of relationships, at the threshold of adulthood, parenthood or mid-life.Counseling can also be invaluable when people face the losses human beings inevitably face not just the loss of loved ones or the decline of functions with age or illness, but the loss of dreams, such as achieving a wished-for career goal, or having a child. Not only can psychotherapy facilitate the grieving process, but clients often find that they emerge stronger and more at peace with themselves, with new goals, hopes and dreams. Presently working out of two offices, Elaine sees clients at Lake Boone Counseling and Psychological Services in Raleigh and at Hope Valley Psychotherapy Associates on the border of Durham and Chapel Hill..
