Heather Brewer, LCSW
Heather Brewer, LCSW has her master's degree in exercise physiology and began her career in cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation. She was the director of cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation at Maria Parham Hospital in Henderson for 8 years. During her time in this setting, Heather saw the strong connection between her patients' physical and emotional health. The relationship between the mind and the body became her passion. To better understand the mental health perspective, Heather returned to school and obtained her Master's in Social Work with a concentration in Health and Mental Health.

Heather's focus is to assist clients in finding balance in their lives and help them maximize both their physical and their emotional health. As clients develop skills to better care for themselves, they can create more joy, purpose and health in their lives. She uses a combination of cognitive behavioral therapy and motivational interviewing to help clients make positive changes in their lives. Heather believes that each client has the answers they need within themselves, and feels her role is to help her clients get in touch with their own inner wisdom.

With appropriate clients, Heather often combines her training in exercise physiology and mental health, and offers a walk/talk option. In this type of session she will meet her client at a track or walking trail for a moderate walking workout during which the counseling session will take place. As an American College of Sports Medicine certified Exercise Physiologist, she can help her clients begin a safe and effective exercise program.

Heather primarily works with adults (18-80) in individual therapy. She also has experience leading groups for grief/loss, adjustment to chronic disease, caregivers and groups that address women's issues.

Heather's practice is in Wake Forest, just of US1. She can provide early morning, evening and Saturday appointments if necessary. Please feel free to contact Heather for a free 30 minute introductory session. You may also visit her website at www.humanserviceassociates.com.
